Humanly Possible

Let's look at how two different people reacted towards two similar events and the same book of Gospel, Gospel of Luke.

Luke 1: 8-18
Once when Zechariah's division was on duty and he was serving as priest before God, he was chosen by lot, according to the custom of the priesthood, to go into the temple of the Lord and burn incense. And when the time for the burning of incense came, all the assembled worshipers were praying outside.

Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing at the right side of the altar of incense. When Zechariah saw him, he was startled and was gripped with fear. But the angel said to him: "Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to give him the name John. He will be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth, for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He is never to take wine or other fermented drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even from birth. Many of the people of Israel will he bring back to the Lord their God. And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous—to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."

Zechariah asked the angel, "How can I be sure of this? I am an old man and my wife is well along in years."

Luke 1: 26-38
In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin's name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, "Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you."

Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end."

"How will this be," Mary asked the angel, "since I am a virgin?"

The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month. For nothing is impossible with God."

"I am the Lord's servant," Mary answered. "May it be to me as you have said." Then the angel left her.

-----

In short, Zechariah asked:" How can this possibly be?!", Mary asked:" How will this happened?!"

It might look as if they are of the same question but it turned out to be two very different result. Zechariah was muted for his disbelief but Mary humbly accepted God's way without further doubts and questions.

In our praises we always say:" Our God is Almighty. He is powerful!" But simply how much you believe that He is Almighty? We often limit God's ability into our human's ability. This is because human's understanding of how things work cannot understand how God works! It's not like you can search it on HowStuffWorks.com...lol

Job 38:4-7

"Where were you when I laid the earth's foundation?
Tell me, if you understand.

Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know!
Who stretched a measuring line across it?

On what were its footings set,
or who laid its cornerstone-

while the morning stars sang together
and all the angels shouted for joy?"

This is one famous joke that circled around but yet gave us a very important lesson:

A man crashed his plane into the sea and floating helplessly. He thought it would be briliant to ask God to save him personally. So he prayed to God and wanted God to come to his rescue! A helicopter came and tried to rescue him, but he refused:" I'm waiting for God to save me!", the helicopter left. A speed boat came, he refused again. He kept praying to God for help, until he realised, he's before the LORD, dead...So he asked God angrily, why didn't You come and help me?! God answered:" I did! I sent a helicopter and a speed boat!" The man:"..."

Don't force God to do what you want and how you want it to be, for His power is limitless. Don't limit Him with your limit, don't set God into your box, for He is too great to be contained.

1 John 5:14

"This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us."

There are two categories of things involving ability to achieve: the humanly possible and humanly impossible. The latter is not meant for us to worry about, it's meant for God to take care of. But when the chance comes, we do what is humanly possible on our part.

Mary didn't question further because she clearly knows that it is impossible for her to do such miracle. So she left it to God, and did what was possible for her, bearing the Holy One in her womb and went through the pain just as any other mother.

We often question, how is it possible to reach out to the rest of the non-believers?! Especially in Malaysia bounded with Syaria Law and every other visible and invisible obstacles? Well, that's not for us to worry about! But we do our part and do our very best to share and to reach out! Do not be shame to share about Jesus.

Luke 9:26

"If anyone is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels."
