Sermon: 3 Alasan Kebangkitan Yesus itu Penting

English | Bahasa Malaysia Selamat pagi. 1. Yesus bangkit untuk mengubah takdir manusia iaitu kematian selama-lamanya. Jika kita sudah diper

Sermon: 3 Reasons Why Jesus' Resurrection is Important

English | Bahasa Malaysia Good morning, it is indeed a pleasure to be here today. We are students from Universiti Sains Malaysia, pursuing engineering in Penang. We are here to follow Pastor Fendi to serve the Orang Asli in Kampung Kentak and Kampung Lawin. It was a wonderful experience with Pastor Fendi. I was deeply impressed by Pastor Fendi's heart to preach the gospel. Today, we celebrate Easter Sunday with joy. Today, 2000 years ago, CHrist died for us on the cross but rose again 3 days after. But why did Jesus need to die for us? WHy is His resurrection so important? Today, I'm going to give you 3 reasons why Jesus' Resurrection is so important. 1. Jesus resurrected to change man's destiny of eternal death. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we wou

Mission Trip to Gerik Day 3: Bangkit!

*Bangkit = arise in Bahasa Malaysia Preparing the sermon and writing my journal kept me awake until 3am last night. JJ allowed us to sleep a little longer today, but I woke up early nonetheless. I wanted to do something special for the juniors: make them a good breakfast. I hardly cook. The last time I cook a proper meal, I was trying to pass my cooking badge as a boy scout. Haha! I guess I had to do my best. The recipe was easy: Two eggs well beaten, season with salt and mayonnaise. Heat the pan with about 3 tablespoon of cooking oil. Gently pour the eggs in the pan in circular motion. Spread out the egg while it cooks. Flip it over to cook it through. 5min later, you'll have a fluffy omelette to go with your bread. Me preparing breakfast Easier said than done, but thanks to Michelle and Yuan Ming who offered to help, making the omelette was fun. Yuan Ming came to me like "Joash, I want to help. I fry egg very good one." LOL, I thought I was the only upfr

Mission Trip to Gerik Day 2: Starting from Scratch

Waking up earlier than usual is something of a norm for me in mission trip. The cold night kept me in a half asleep mode too. Nevertheless, I felt thoroughly energized for the much anticipated encounter. To maximize sleeping time for everyone, we took turn at the bathroom and woke the next person up after use. I took the liberty to pull some toothpaste prank on JJ and Yuan Ming who struggled to stay awake after brushing up. Joanna did a great job at leading the morning devotion. She ditched the prepared devotional material and in turn allowed us to pray specifically for our respective expectations for the trip. Yuan Zhang's Roti Tampal for breakfast We had a light breakfast at the mamak restaurant beside the church. JJ gave us a Vitamin C supplement pill each. This is important because Vitamin C can boost our immune system and enhance natural healing. This is something I learned from my Timor Leste mission 2 years ago. Thank you Beatrice! We spent an hour waiting for

Mission Trip to Gerik Day 1: Back in Action

Image
I feel fresh at 9:30am even though I head to bed at about 3am this morning. I am excited. The thought of meeting new people and bringing the good news about Him keeps me up. Getting my personal stuffs ready seems so routine, I guess I'm so getting the hang of it. The Mission Team (from top left): Xuan Zhi, Joanna, Michelle, Yuan Zhang, Yuan Ming, JJ, Shirleyuen and Joash We gathered a little later than we planned. Well, Malaysian timing is really something we need to change. But forgive us, some of us had classes prior to departure. Not me though, I'm free as a bird and lazy as a sloth this semester.  Our President, Benjamin, along with Vice President Wei Huai, ex-President Jason and Sok Yeng, came and send us off with a prayer. With an Amen, thus, we embarked on an amazing journey to Gerik. The road was not exactly nice to drive on and the fully loaded car is a little too crammed, but the music, scenery and the strange small towns made this journey a rather wond

GST: God Supplies Timely

“I am with you, declares the Lord.” Haggai 1:13 What a comforting words from God. Yet does it shock you that the book of Haggai did not start with such comforting tone? As we did our Bible Study with Christian Fellowship today, we saw the frustration of God over our misplaced priorities. In the midst of our worldly concerns and pursuit, have we forgotten that God deserves our attentions most?  Today's Bible Study seems to come very timely. The government seems to have pulled an April Fool prank on us and there is no escape from GST. But the Word of God reminded us that such things are not to be our utmost concerns. Our God is the God who provides. The worship of God is our top priority. As for the rest, work hard and trust Him. Fear not, for GST stands for God Supplies Timely. God's Character, My Encounter.

Preach, That They May Hear!

For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”  Romans 10:13-15 (ESV) I am crazy. Oh yes, the Joash you know is crazy for mission and evangelism. I'm crazy because right beyond my little world called "myself", there are thousands of souls starving and perishing. This mission trip is not about the 8 of the participating missionaries. It's not about the Orang Asli we are visiting in Gerik, Perak. It's about God, and it's about us: the followers of Christ, obeying Christ's Great Commission to "make disciples of all nations" (Matt 28:19). The 8 of us: led by Jotham JJ Jeremy, Joash Mock Kar Wai, Lim Yuan Zhang
