Sermon: 3 Reasons Why Jesus' Resurrection is Important

English | Bahasa Malaysia

Good morning, it is indeed a pleasure to be here today. We are students from Universiti Sains Malaysia, pursuing engineering in Penang. We are here to follow Pastor Fendi to serve the Orang Asli in Kampung Kentak and Kampung Lawin. It was a wonderful experience with Pastor Fendi. I was deeply impressed by Pastor Fendi's heart to preach the gospel.

Today, we celebrate Easter Sunday with joy. Today, 2000 years ago, CHrist died for us on the cross but rose again 3 days after. But why did Jesus need to die for us? WHy is His resurrection so important? Today, I'm going to give you 3 reasons why Jesus' Resurrection is so important.

1. Jesus resurrected to change man's destiny of eternal death.
For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. For one who has died has been set free from sin. Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him.
Romans 6:5-9
If Jesus did not come, where would we be when we die? The Bible says we will remain in hell, eternal death without hope to be rescued. John 3:18 tells us that without Christ, we standa condemned. That is why Christ's Resurrection is so important. His resurrection offered us a very certain hope to be saved. Romans 6 told us that we who believes in Him will be reaised with Him as He is risen. And He will never die again because He overcome death with His Resurrection. And we will live forever with Him, saved from our destiny of eternal burning in hell. This is why we rejoice and celebrate.

2. Jesus resurrected to show all men His greatness, glory and power.

The resurrection of Jesus is the biggest display of His power. No one has done it before and no one can ever do it. To raise someone from the death to eternal life requires someone who has authority over life and death. We all know who is He: It it God Himself. Jesus' Resurrection displays God's power over every creature on earth.

The resurrection of Jesus also displays God's power to change a person. In the dark of Good Friday, Peter, the loud and faithful disciple of Jesus, denied Jesus 3 times before the rooster crowed thrice. Seeing a humiliated Jesus, he became afraid and lost his faith. But the same, cowardice Peter was a completely changed man when he saw Jesus risen and well. His resurrection gave a great conviction and faith to Peter who became very bold in preaching and ultimately martyred for the sake of the Gospel. His Resurrection changes people.

3. Jesus resurrected to empower men to make disciples of all nations.
And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.... And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by accompanying signs.
Mark 16:15,20
Jesus' Resurrection enabled one thing: the spread of Christianity throughout the world. His resurrection gave meaning and basis for the Gospel. He confirmed the message of the Gospel that eternal life and resurrection is possible. His resurrection reaffirmed and empowered His disciples to bring this Good News everywhere. His resurrection is important so that we may go out beyond the church building to bring the Gospel to those who has not heard it. Does His resurrection empower you to share the Gospel? Let's obey His commission for us, and make disciples of all nation.

Jesus is the Reason that we celebrate Easter. He is the Reason that we live and He is the Reason that we rejoice today. Let's pray.
