Spiritual Poverty

Image
Matthew 5:3"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." Many Christians today have one problem - we keep thinking we are the blessed one. We often think that being a Christian makes us somehow more blessed than another, and those who do not believe in Jesus are inferior to us. Don't think so? Then what drives us to organise mission trips saying that we want to help the poor? The truth is, only one who think that they are superior would say so. Being wealthy is our disadvantage. In one of his very famous sermon, Francis Chan said so. But I'm saying, being a Christian makes us feel spiritually wealthy. That's why we hear feedbacks from non-believers that Christians are pretty nasty. Simply because, sometimes the way we tell people about Christ, makes them feel inferior to us. We talk as if we are holier than them, like we can fix them, like our ways is higher than their ways. But hey, the truth is, no one needs a fixing from another per

Losing Horizon

I guess in the midst of my busyness - Upcoming CF events stacking up week by week, Group Assignments, Design, part time job, personal time, devotion, prayer and etc. I lost the horizon somewhere during my flight. I lost my focus on Jesus and instead staring at the pile of work that blinds me from His greatness. Fear, pride and stubbornness, I saw things bigger than it should, saw God way smaller than He is. Psalm 46:1-3 "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling." Then why should I fear? Upcoming CF activities left unplanned - it's just CF! I have 4 Group Assignments piling - it's just assignments! One heck of design project - it's just design, it's just my academic study, it's just a Bachelor Degree! I'm the Vice President of Christian F

Program Nilam Day 1: Matthew 1 & 2

Overview: Matthew 1 started the first section with the genealogy of Jesus Christ along the line of Joseph, His earthly father. This is a direct and one of the most obvious fulfilment of prophecy concerning the Messiah as a descendant of King David. Whatever follows in Matthew 1 and 2 are multiple fulfilments of prophecies. In two chapters alone, the writer of the Gospel pointed out 5 prophecies fulfilled apart from Jesus' genealogy, which 4 out of 5 of them can be cross-referred to the Old Testament. This is amazing to read because the fulfilment of these prophecies proves Jesus to be the promised Saviour. These prophecies are like a fingerprint security that only Jesus' fingerprint can match. In chapters to come we will see even more prophecies to be fulfilled through Jesus Christ, which all will come together to reaffirm our faith in Christ.

Hi, Just Call Me Joash

Ran towards the PA system during a hiccup during Sunday Service. When everything was okay, I simply sat down beside Derrick Tan. Le DT: So you are in your 3rd year already right?!  Le me: Yea, can you believe it? When I first met you, I was still that hyperactive 1st year who talks non-stop.  Le DT: Yea, so what has changed for you?  Le me: Haha, it's different when you are a senior and no more a junior. I used to look up to people, and now people are looking up to me and I would panicked by such expectations.  Le DT: Haha, I had been there, done that.  Le me: Yea, I know. Now, I don't dare to call myself AWESOME as often anymore.  Le DT: HAHAHAHA!   Senior, is too much a title for me to carry. Call me a friend, just call me Joash!

Give Me Just Enough

Being a PPSL sure has benefit by its own. I am privileged to be able to attend several useful talks and seminars. Here I was again, helping out as technical team, at a Entrepreneurship forum. I was a little taken aback by the panel's sudden survey: "Siapa nak jadi kaya angkat tangan. (Those who wants to be rich please raise your hand.)" I was even more surprised by the almost immediate response from the I-don't-really-care-about-the-talk students. More than 3 quarters of students raised their hands, among them I could identify some Christian juniors. I didn't write this so to make these brothers and sisters look materialistic and terrible. I myself was tempted to be a part to admit this great desire. I mean, who doesn't want to hold all the money in the world and be the most powerful man. I do. But Agur, oracle of Proverbs 30 desires a different thing from the Lord. Two things I ask of you; deny them not to me before I die: Remove far from me falsehoo

The God Who Loves and Disciplines

1 When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son. 2 The more they were called, the more they went away; they kept sacrificing to the Baals and burning offerings to idols. 3 Yet it was I who taught Ephraim to walk; I took them up by their arms, but they did not know that I healed them. 4 I led them with cords of kindness, with the bands of love, and I became to them as one who eases the yoke on their jaws, and I bent down to them and fed them. 5 They shall not return to the land of Egypt, but Assyria shall be their king, because they have refused to return to me. 6 The sword shall rage against their cities, consume the bars of their gates, and devour them because of their own counsels. 7 My people are bent on turning away from me, and though they call out to the Most High, he shall not raise them up at all. 8 How can I give you up, O Ephraim? How can I hand you over, O Israel? How can I make you l
